Breastfeeding Consultations

While the making of breast milk is natural following the birth of a baby, the act of breastfeeding is a learned skill for both mother and the baby.  Often times in today's society, moms are confused by all the conflicting advice they get about breastfeeding.  One reason there is so much conflicting advice is because there are so many different types of moms, babies, and breasts.  There is no "one size fits all" solution for breastfeeding difficulties because each breastfeeding couple is unique.

At Lactation Resource Center, our plans are individually tailored to meet the specific needs of each client.  Lactation Resource Center's Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant is a specially trained expert whose goal is to enhance your breastfeeding experience.

It is recommended that you schedule an appointment with a lactation consultant anytime you suspect a problem or simply need reassurance.  This may also include:

  • Within the first 3-5 days after birth, to insure breastfeeding success and comfort.
  • About 2-4 weeks before you plan to return to work, to discuss how and when to pump to protect your milk supply.
  • Prior to initiation of solid foods, to discuss baby's developmental readiness.
  • When you are ready to wean to a bottle or a cup.

Please don't allow an issue to continue more than a day or two to see if it is going to get better before seeking professional help.

Preparing for a consultation

Please plan for the baby to be ready to feed in the first hour of our visit so that I can observe and assist with the breastfeeding session. Be sure you have had a good breakfast or lunch, because you will retain more of what we say if you are comfortable. It may be helpful if mother and baby are joined by another supportive family member or friend to learn together.
