Because breast milk is the perfect first food for your baby, Lactation Resource Center LLC wants to make sure that you have the breastfeeding support you need. Through private breastfeeding consultations, you can receive professional instruction, information, and reassurance so breastfeeding can succeed and become an enjoyable nurturing relationship between mother and baby.
Breastfeeding is important. Breastfeeding is a learned skill and doesn't always come naturally. Some new mothers may experience soreness in their breasts and have concerns about whether their baby is latched on correctly. A breastfeeding consultation can help with these issues. Some other common concerns for which mothers seek a consultation include the following:
- The baby is not latching on or is not nursing well within 48 hours.
- Sore nipples that last more than 24-48 hours.
- Your baby is not having at least three yellow bowel movements in a 24-hour period, after the fifth day.
- Your baby is sleepy and has fewer than 8 feeds in 24 hours.
- Your baby has excessively long feedings (>30 min. per side) or short feedings (<5 min. per side).
- Your newborn baby has lost more than 7% of his/her birth weight.
- You feel your supply is low, or you think you may need to supplement feedings with formula.
- Your baby is slow to gain weight.
- You have plugged ducts or a red area on your breast
- You intend to return to work or school and are unsure how to prepare.
- You have special circumstances, such as a premature baby, twins or higher multiples or birth defects.
- You have experienced infertility or have maternal health concerns.
- You have had any previous breast surgery
- You are choosing to relactate or induce lactation for an adoptive child.
- You are anxious about breastfeeding or in need of reassurance.
